The Lunar New Year Showdown by Whatabangers is officially in motion, and excitement is already building across the DFW pickleball community.
Set for February 21, 2026, at Pickler Universe, this tournament marks our first event of 2026, and we couldn’t ask for a better way to kick off the year.
With over 120 players already registered and a full month still to go, we’re pacing well ahead of expectations. Our goal is 150+ registered players, and if history tells us anything, we’ll surpass that number. Higher-level players tend to register closer to game day, so we’re confident the competition will continue to level up as the event approaches.

More Than a Tournament
The Lunar New Year Showdown isn’t just about competition — it’s about community, culture, and celebration.
To keep the energy high throughout the day, we’re planning interactive games and activities designed to entertain players between matches while highlighting our sponsors in a fun and engaging way.
One idea we’re especially excited about is a pickleball-themed TikTok-style game, where players can participate in quick, lighthearted challenges centered around pickleball culture. It’s a great way to create content, laugh a little, and showcase sponsor support.
We’re also bringing a cultural favorite to the courts with a Bầu Cua–inspired dice game, reimagined with pickleball icons. Players will have a chance to win small prizes and giveaways, making it a perfect Lunar New Year–themed activity that everyone can enjoy.
